About me
Welcome to my personal academic page. I’ve been working in the academy since 2013 on research and industry projects on transportation and electrical power systems. My main focus has been simulation and control, and the integration of multiple tools and platforms to simulate complex cyber-physical systems.
Master of Engineering
In my M.Eng. stage, I got deeply involved into the simulation of transportation systems using the open-source package SUMO and supported the implementation of estimation and control methods by interfacing this simulator to Matlab. This required to develop an implementation of the Traffic Control Interface (TraCI) for the Matlab language, namely TraCI4Matlab. I maintained TraCI4Matlab from 2013 to 2021. The combination of SUMO and TraCI4Matlab allowed our research team to test traffic monitoring methods and different types of traffic lights controllers in complex scenarios located in Medellín. We worked together with the mobility authorities in this city to analyse traffic congestion and propose strategies to reduce it.
My M.Eng. thesis proposed a control system combining optimal and AI-based control for the lane-change maneuver of autonomous vehicles. Although I didn’t have the time to test this controller in SUMO, I still believe this is a great idea for future research.
Doctor of Engineering
During my Dr.Eng. stage, I have gained more experience in simulation and numerical methods applied to co-simulation of electrical power systems.
